A report by Capgemini Consulting entitled Supply Chain Agenda 2010 suggests that almost 60% of supply chain managers see meeting customer requirements as the key business driver for 2010. AG Barr, the manufacturer of Irn-Bru, has agreed an £18 million distribution deal with family favourite logistics provider Eddie Stobart. The three year deal will see product moved by rail from AG Barr’s Cumbernauld manufacturing plant to a newly set up central stockholding facility at Crick and thence to the UK retailer network. Stobart’s track record in integrating new business was a key factor in the move and whilst wide-ranging efficiencies are planned, the multimodal approach is also expected to reduce carbon emissions.
