A Jungheinrich forklift truck has been driven from John O’Groats to Land’s End for charity, raising more than £15,000 for Cancer Research. Three friends, Stuart Colvin, Steve Hare and Steve Golding, decided to undertake the trip in memory of a close friend, Tim Frankham, who succumbed to a brain tumour in May of 2009. Despite some traditionally ‘inclement’ weather in the Scottish Highlands, the trio made the trip in four days taking four-hour ‘shifts’ in turn.

Hamburg-based forklift manufacturer Still GmbH is trialling the first reach truck in Germany to be powered by a fuel cell drive. In tandem with fuel system developer Hoppecke and hydrogen refuelling station provider Linde Gas, the project is funded by the regional government of North Rhein-Westphalia, under its ‘progres.nrw’ programme. At client BASF Coatings AG in Muenster, the Still FM-X 20 reach truck delivers finished goods to despatch while an R60-25 electric truck moves raw materials to production areas.

The Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) held its glittering annual awards ceremony recently to celebrate the best companies and most able individuals in the materials handling business. Amongst the big winners were Mitsubishi in the Ergonomics section, Abex for Safety, Ravas Europe for Innovation and Cascade Corporation in the key Environment section. Kevin Lofting, the founder of Albury Asset Rentals, received a Lifetime Achievement award and Apprentice of the Year was Mark McRobert of Northern Forklift Scotland.

UK Cat Lift Truck distributor Briggs Equipment has produced a brochure to support its recently launched online asset management tool, Speedshield. The six page document explains how Speedshield can boost productivity through the ‘application of best practice’. According to Sally Barker, Marketing Manager at Briggs, the tool offers real time information and allows clients to monitor and control their fleet from almost anywhere in the world. Additionally, Speedshield does away with the need to buy expensive third party software.
